The Perch Afterschool Program

The Perch Afterschool Program provides 3rd-10th grade students in Comer a safe place to grow and learn as students and community members. We meet on Friday afternoons, and provide a tasty snack and regular enrichment time — plus the chance to build meaningful friendships across backgrounds. Parents can click here to apply for their children to join the program.

Here’s what we offer at The Perch Afterschool Program: a good snack, enrichment activities, learning acceleration, and family engagement.

A GOOD SNACK. We start our program with a healthy (and tasty!) snack. Program participants help out with food prep and menu planning.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES. Activity time is a chance for students to have fun, develop new talents, and build our community. Activities include volleyball, capture the flag, and nature walks. This is a time for creative work, like photography and jewelry-making. We also like to think of our enrichment time as the nuts-and-bolts work of community building — a time to discuss our community norms or plan a service project.

FAMILY ENGAGEMENT. Staff and volunteers of the after-school program keep in touch with parents of our program participants through home visits and written communication in their native languages. This active communication supports our understanding of their children, and helps connect our program families to resources that can support them.
