Public Health Projects

As it turns out, 2020 was an unlucky year to launch a community center.

When we started this thing, we imagined big beautiful gatherings with hundreds of our neighbors… and then a brutal pandemic swept the globe and devastated some of our families and kept us apart from one another.

In the beginning, we had no idea that the Perch would host public health events and vaccination clinics. But if that’s what it takes to get us back together again, then we’re all for it.

In collaboration with CORE and the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Perch has hosted three pop-up vaccine clinics — dispensing more than 90 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, or enough for 6-percent of the population of the city of Comer.

When we heard that some of our neighbors had reservations about getting the shot, we organized a Saturday morning conversation with local healthcare providers so we could all talk about it.

Because like it says at the top of our homepage, we’re trying to bring folks together.
